Dalit Dastak — Since 2012, The Pioneer of Dalit-Bahujan Journalism
Founded in June 2012 by journalist Ashok Das (Ashok Kumar), with a group of intellectuals of same ideology. Dalit Dastak is an independent Indian media platform dedicated to amplifying the voices, experiences and concerns of Dalit, Adivasi, Bahujan and other marginalized communities. What began as a monthly magazine has evolved into a multi-platform media organization with a news website, a YouTube channel with more than 1.5 million subscribers, and an active presence across social media.
At a time when the concerns and lived experiences of marginalized communities remained underrepresented in mainstream Hindi journalism, Dalit Dastak emerged with a distinct editorial mission: to bring these stories into public discourse and make social justice an integral part of journalism.

Dalit Dastak is committed to independent, ground-based and public-interest journalism. Its reporting examines caste discrimination, social exclusion, human rights violations, access to education, representation, and the challenges faced by marginalized communities. It also documents their struggles, achievements, leadership, histories and cultural contributions.
Through ground reports, interviews, news coverage, analysis and digital storytelling, Dalit Dastak seeks to bring visibility to stories that are frequently overlooked, underreported or excluded from mainstream narratives.

- Harvard University — 2020
In February 2020, Ashok Das was invited to speak at the Harvard India Conference at Harvard University on “Caste and the Media.” His participation brought attention to the relationship between caste, representation and journalism in India. - Mooknayak Excellence in Journalism Award — 2020
Dalit Dastak received the Mooknayak Excellence in Journalism Award, presented by the U.S.-based organization ANNA, in recognition of its work in journalism. - Google News Initiative — 2022
Dalit Dastak was selected for the Google Newहाs Initiative (GNI) funding program, supporting its efforts to strengthen and develop its journalism. - YouTube News Video Accelerator Program — 2022
The platform was selected for the News Video Accelerator Program conducted by YouTube and Ping Digital Broadcast Pvt. Ltd., supporting the development of its video journalism. - Global Investigative Journalism Conference — 2023
In September 2023, Ashok Das received a fellowship from the Global Investigative Journalism Network (GIJN) to attend the Global Investigative Journalism Conference (GIJC) in Gothenburg, Sweden. The opportunity connected his work with the international investigative journalism community. - Dr. Ambedkar International Symposium, Canada — 2023
In April 2023, Ashok Das, founder-editor of Dalit Dastak, was invited as a special guest to the Dr. Ambedkar International Symposium organized by Chetna Association, an organization working to advance the Ambedkarite mission, in Vancouver, Canada.
During his visit, Ashok Das documented the struggles and lived experiences of more than a dozen families from marginalized communities settled in Canada. Through on-the-ground reporting, he brought their stories, challenges and experiences to a wider audience. He covered more than 30 stories during the visit, extending Dalit Dastak’s reporting beyond India and highlighting the experiences of marginalized communities in the Canadian diaspora.
- Unveiling of the Statue of Equality, USA — 2023
On October 14, 2023, Ashok Das, Founder-Editor of Dalit Dastak, was invited by the Ambedkar International Center (AIC), USA, as the only Indian journalist invited on the special occasion of the unveiling of the 12-foot-tall statue of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, known as the Statue of Equality. The statue was officially unveiled at the Ambedkar International Center in Accokeek, Maryland, USA. This invitation marked a significant milestone in Ashok Das’s journalistic journey and international engagement with the Ambedkarite movement.

जून 2012 में पत्रकार अशोक दास (अशोक कुमार) द्वारा समान विचार वाले प्रबुद्ध और वरिष्ठजनों के सहयोग से स्थापित दलित दस्तक भारत का एक स्वतंत्र मीडिया मंच है, जो दलित, आदिवासी, बहुजन और अन्य वंचित समुदायों की आवाज़, अनुभवों और सरोकारों को प्रमुखता से सामने लाने के लिए प्रतिबद्ध है। एक मासिक पत्रिका के रूप में शुरू हुई यह पहल आज समाचार वेबसाइट, यूट्यूब चैनल और विभिन्न सोशल मीडिया मंचों तक विस्तारित हो चुकी है। इसके यूट्यूब चैनल के लगभग 15 लाख से अधिक सब्सक्राइबर हैं। ऐसे दौर में, जब वंचित समुदायों के सवालों और उनके जीवन के अनुभवों को मुख्यधारा की हिंदी पत्रकारिता में अपेक्षित जगह नहीं मिल रही थी, दलित दस्तक ने एक स्पष्ट संपादकीय उद्देश्य के साथ अपनी शुरुआत की—उन कहानियों को सार्वजनिक विमर्श का हिस्सा बनाना, जिन्हें अक्सर अनदेखा कर दिया जाता है, और सामाजिक न्याय को पत्रकारिता के केंद्र में लाना।
सामाजिक न्याय के प्रति प्रतिबद्ध स्वतंत्र पत्रकारिता
दलित दस्तक स्वतंत्र, जमीनी और जनहितकारी पत्रकारिता के लिए प्रतिबद्ध है। इसकी रिपोर्टिंग जातिगत भेदभाव, सामाजिक बहिष्कार, मानवाधिकारों के उल्लंघन, शिक्षा तक पहुंच, प्रतिनिधित्व और वंचित समुदायों के सामने मौजूद चुनौतियों जैसे मुद्दों पर केंद्रित है। इसके साथ ही, यह इन समुदायों के संघर्षों, उपलब्धियों, नेतृत्व, इतिहास और सांस्कृतिक योगदान को भी सामने लाता है। ग्राउंड रिपोर्ट, साक्षात्कार, समाचार कवरेज, विश्लेषण और डिजिटल स्टोरीटेलिंग के माध्यम से दलित दस्तक उन मुद्दों और अनुभवों को सार्वजनिक विमर्श में जगह देने का प्रयास करता है, जिन्हें अक्सर मुख्यधारा के मीडिया में पर्याप्त स्थान नहीं मिलता।
दलित दस्तक का मानना है कि- हर समुदाय को अपनी बात कहने का अवसर मिलना चाहिए, हर अन्याय की पड़ताल होनी चाहिए और पत्रकारिता को जनहित में काम करना चाहिए।
एक पत्रिका से बहु-माध्यमीय मीडिया मंच तक का सफर
जून 2012 में अपनी स्थापना के बाद से दलित दस्तक ने प्रिंट पत्रकारिता से आगे बढ़ते हुए डिजिटल माध्यमों के जरिए व्यापक दर्शकों और पाठकों तक अपनी पहुंच बनाई है।

फरवरी 2020 में अशोक दास को हार्वर्ड यूनिवर्सिटी में आयोजित हार्वर्ड इंडिया कॉन्फ्रेंस में “Caste and the Media” विषय पर बोलने के लिए आमंत्रित किया गया। इस सहभागिता ने भारत में जाति, मीडिया और प्रतिनिधित्व के संबंधों पर अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर चर्चा को आगे बढ़ाने का अवसर दिया। - मूकनायक एक्सीलेंस इन जर्नलिज्म अवॉर्ड — 2020
दलित दस्तक को अमेरिका स्थित संस्था ANNA द्वारा प्रदान किए गए ‘मूकनायक एक्सीलेंस इन जर्नलिज्म अवॉर्ड’ से सम्मानित किया गया। यह सम्मान पत्रकारिता के क्षेत्र में इसके काम की पहचान है। - गूगल न्यूज़ इनिशिएटिव — 2022
दलित दस्तक को Google News Initiative (GNI) के फंडिंग कार्यक्रम के लिए चुना गया। इस पहल का उद्देश्य इसकी पत्रकारिता को मजबूत बनाने और आगे विकसित करने में सहयोग देना था। - यूट्यूब न्यूज़ वीडियो एक्सेलरेटर प्रोग्राम — 2022

सितंबर 2023 में अशोक दास को Global Investigative Journalism Network (GIJN) की ओर से स्वीडन के गोथेनबर्ग में आयोजित Global Investigative Journalism Conference (GIJC) में शामिल होने के लिए फेलोशिप मिली। इस अवसर ने उन्हें अंतरराष्ट्रीय खोजी पत्रकारिता समुदाय से जुड़ने का मौका दिया। - डॉ. आंबेडकर अंतरराष्ट्रीय संगोष्ठी, कनाडा — 2023
अप्रैल 2023 में दलित दस्तक के संस्थापक-संपादक अशोक दास को कनाडा के वैंकूवर में चेतना एसोसिएशन द्वारा आयोजित डॉ. आंबेडकर अंतरराष्ट्रीय संगोष्ठी में विशेष आमंत्रित अतिथि के रूप में शामिल होने के लिए आमंत्रित किया गया। चेतना एसोसिएशन कनाडा में आंबेडकरी मिशन के लिए कार्यरत संस्था है।
इस यात्रा के दौरान अशोक दास कनाडा में बसे वंचित समुदायों के एक दर्जन से अधिक परिवारों के संघर्षों, अनुभवों और चुनौतियों को अपनी रिपोर्टिंग के माध्यम से सामने लाए। उन्होंने इन परिवारों की कहानियों को व्यापक दर्शकों तक पहुँचाने का प्रयास किया। इस दौरान उन्होंने 30 से अधिक स्टोरीज़ कवर कीं। इस पहल ने दलित दस्तक की पत्रकारिता का दायरा भारत से आगे बढ़ाते हुए कनाडा में बसे वंचित समुदायों के अनुभवों को भी प्रमुखता से सामने रखा।
- स्टैच्यू ऑफ इक्वैलिटी का अनावरण, अमेरिका — 2023
14 अक्टूबर, 2023 को दलित दस्तक के संस्थापक-संपादक अशोक दास को अमेरिका स्थित अंबेडकर इंटरनेशनल सेंटर (AIC) द्वारा डॉ. बी. आर. आंबेडकर की 12 फीट ऊँची प्रतिमा के अनावरण के विशेष अवसर पर आमंत्रित किया गया था। स्टैच्यू ऑफ इक्वैलिटी (समानता की प्रतिमा) के नाम से प्रसिद्ध इस प्रतिमा का आधिकारिक अनावरण अमेरिका के मैरीलैंड राज्य के एकोकीक में स्थित अंबेडकर इंटरनेशनल सेंटर में हुआ। इस ऐतिहासिक अवसर पर आमंत्रित एकमात्र भारतीय पत्रकार होने का गौरव अशोक दास को प्राप्त हुआ। यह आमंत्रण उनकी पत्रकारिता यात्रा और अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर आंबेडकरी आंदोलन से जुड़ाव की एक महत्वपूर्ण उपलब्धि है।
हमारा विजन
दलित दस्तक ऐसे मीडिया परिदृश्य की कल्पना करता है, जहां जाति और सामाजिक असमानता से जुड़े मुद्दों की गंभीरता से पड़ताल हो, वंचित समुदायों को सार्वजनिक विमर्श में सार्थक जगह मिले और पत्रकारिता अधिक जागरूक, समानतापूर्ण तथा लोकतांत्रिक समाज के निर्माण में योगदान दे। साथ ही बौद्ध धर्म के दर्शन को बढ़ावा मिले, जहां मनुष्य को समान माना जाता है।
इससे आगे दलित दस्तक का लक्ष्य जमीनी रिपोर्टिंग को मजबूत करना, उच्च गुणवत्ता वाली मल्टीमीडिया पत्रकारिता विकसित करना, डिजिटल माध्यमों पर अपनी पहुंच बढ़ाना और भारत सहित दुनिया भर में फैले दलित-बहुजन समुदाय के पाठकों, दर्शकों तथा समर्थकों के साथ अपने संबंधों को मजबूत करना है।
स्वतंत्र पत्रकारिता को सहयोग दें
स्वतंत्र पत्रकारिता को निरंतर आगे बढ़ाने के लिए संसाधनों, संस्थागत सहयोग और ऐसे समुदाय की आवश्यकता होती है, जो इसके उद्देश्य में विश्वास रखता हो। दलित दस्तक उन व्यक्तियों, संस्थानों और संगठनों के साथ सार्थक साझेदारियां विकसित करना चाहता है, जो सामाजिक न्याय, मीडिया में विविधता और समावेशी लोकतंत्र के प्रति प्रतिबद्ध हैं। दलित दस्तक को सहयोग देकर पाठक और साझेदार ऐसे अधिक मजबूत और प्रतिनिधित्वपूर्ण मीडिया परिवेश के निर्माण में योगदान दे सकते हैं, जहां वंचित समुदायों की कहानियों को वह जगह मिले, जिसकी वे हकदार हैं।
