Ashok Das (Ashok Kumar) is a prominent face of Dalit-Ambedkarite journalism. When journalism based on Ambedkarite values was beginning to die down in the Hindi belt, Ashok gave a new edge to social justice journalism by starting 'Dalit Dastak' in 2012. Harvard University invited him as a speaker at the Harvard India Conference in the year 2020.Where he spoke on the topic of Caste and Media. India's prestigious Outlook magazine included Ashok Das in the list of 50 Dalits, Remaking India in april 2021 issue. Features regarding Ashok Das's journalism have been published in media organizations like DW (Germany), The Asahi Shimbun (Japan), The Mainichi Newspapers (Japan), The Week and Hindustan Times etc.
Ashok Das started his journalism career after doing journalism from IIMC Delhi in 2006. He worked in prestigious media organizations like Lokmat, Amar Ujala, Bhadas4Media and Deshonnati. From 2010-2015 he covered various ministries and the Indian Parliament. He has been awarded the Prabhash Joshi Journalism Award. On January 31, 2020, on the completion of 100 years of the first paper 'Mooknayak' published by Dr. Ambedkar, Ashok Das and Dalit Dastak organized a grand event in Delhi where Dr. Ambedkar was remembered as a journalist. This gave a new edge to Ambedkarite journalism in India.
Many newspapers and magazines have come out from all parts of the country and are coming out to shake the Bahujan consciousness, but so far there has been little effort that can inform us about the activities of the Bahujan Samaj happening every month across the country. Dalit Dastak is one such effort.
